JOYSTICK SETUP WITH BANZAI BUG For Joystick control, you must have at least a 2-axis, 2 button joystick (a 2-axis, 3-button joystick is optimal). Joystick controls can be customized by using the Options/Control Type/Customize Joystick Buttons menu. If you enter the Options/Control Type section of the game and the only device available is Keyboard this means your system is not recognizing your joystick. If you are experiencing problems with your joystick, we suggest you do the following: 1) Consult the documentation that came with the joystick. 2) Re-calibrate the joystick in the Control Panel/Joystick section of Windows 95. 3) Make sure the game is set to 'Joystick Only' or 'Keyboard and Joystick' in the Banzai Bug Options/Control Type menu. SPECIFIC JOYSTICK ISSUES Microsoft Sidewinder Pro 3D If you are using the MS Sidewinder Pro joystick, be sure to go to the Control Panel/Joystick section of Windows 95 and calibrate it before playing the game. Also, when calibrating the joystick, make sure the Rudder option is checked. * Before you install the SideWinder 3D Pro software, check the Control Panel to make sure it includes a joystick icon. If not, your game port may not be functioning properly. Refer to your Microsoft Windows 95 documentation for help adding or configuring your game port. III. GAMPLAY Once you have Banzai Bug and DirectX installed correctly go to the Start menu and select Run. Type in "C:\TEMP\BANZAI\EXE\Demo2.exe" (where TEMP is the directory you extracted to) to start the game. Select New to start a new game or Load to load a saved game. Once the first level starts your mission is to find food without getting killed by the robobugs. IV. GAME OPTIONS AND SETTINGS SAVING AND RELOADING YOUR GAME Banzai Bug saves your game automatically after each level, using the name you give it during startup. To resume a saved game, select "Load" when you start the program again and select the file from the standard "load file" box that appears. ADVANCED OPTIONS MENU 3D Accelerator Hardware - Banzai works only on certain 3D cards. If you have a 3D accelerator card and the Yes option is available use it. If not, leave it set to no. Force Rendering in System Memory - Choose yes if your system has 32 or more Megs of RAM to speed up your game. Shading Quality (High or Low) - Low Shading makes the game run faster. High Shading makes things stand out more. Textures (All, Some, None) - No textures will run fastest, but the game won't look as nice. All textures (what the game starts with) looks best, but runs slowest. DISPLAY OPTIONS Banzai Bug can be shown on your screen in different ways: Windowed Full Screen High Resolution High Resolution Letterboxed Letterboxed Low Resolution Low Resolution Small (Fastest) Small (Fastest) In addition, the game can be viewed in 64K colors (High Color) or 256 colors (Full Screen mode only). Windowed Mode displays the game in a standard window on your desktop, with the menu shown at all times. Note that this mode is not available if the program is set to a different color palette than your desktop. Full Screen mode lets the game use your whole screen. The 256 color display (as opposed to the 64K "High Color" display) is only available in this mode. High Resolution displays the game in a large box. It shows the greatest amount of detail, but runs slower. Letterbox shows the game in a long strip in the middle of your screen. It is somewhat faster than the High Resolution mode. Low Resolution shows the game in a large box, but with less detail. It runs fastest of the large display options. Small shows the game in a smaller box on your screen, instead of using most of the screen. It is the fastest mode. High Color shows the game with rich colors. Note that the program will run in High Color even when your desktop is set to 256 colors, but only in Full Screen mode. 256 Color uses a more limited palette. Available in Full Screen mode, it is used when High Color is deselected. V.
